# Delete preference

In this article, we will cover how to delete an existing preference in your preferences library.

**Note**: Deleting a preference that has been mapped to a purpose in your configuration tree and/or added to a preferences widget will remove that preference from both configurations.

Click **Preferences** on the left-hand panel.

Select the **Configuration Tree** tab on the subsequent page and navigate to the **Preferences Library** panel.&#x20;

Navigate to a preference in your preferences library and select the **ellipsis** icon inline with the preference name. Click **Delete** from the menu.

If the preference is mapped to a purpose in your configuration tree, a modal will warn you of the impact deleting the preference will have on your configurations. Click **Yes, delete** to continue.

The preference will be deleted from your preference library, configuration tree, and any widgets where that preference was added.&#x20;
